At 10.7lbs the black & decker electric trimmer is somewhat chunkier than a few of the corded trimmers that I was able to checkout. This is mostly due to the 24 volt battery which takes up over half its weight. But the two handed wide set grip gives it a very good balance, making it easy and comfortable to work with. The chunkiness is not much of a hindrance.

What makes this product truly awesome is that it is cordless. Now you won’t have a cable following you around the lawn for 50 feet. The other great feature of the Black & Decker NHT524 trimmer is its fantastic reach. Most Trimmers provide a blade length of 18-22inches , but at 24” it neatly shaves off the lower hanging branches of the trees. You wont need an additional ladder to lug around while cutting high level branches.The blade is very sharp, cutting most branches with plenty of ease. Though it does take some effort to do the branches that are thicker –those nearing ¾”, but even these branches give in easily after a few snips from different sides. The blades are effective but very thin. It can break while storing. So a bit of care is needed.

The Black & Decker NHT524 hedge trimmer comes in a Bright Orange colour so you are not likely to leave it lying around and poke your feet into the blade. The 24 hour battery easily lasts an hour though after 45 minutes the motor slows down a bit. Another thing that I noticed was that the casing gets heated after 20 minutes of continuous use. Short 2-3 minute breaks help to get around this problem.

The best thing I liked about the trimmer was that it is its speed and agility. The normal 1 hour hedging jobs could be done in half an hour on the black & decker cordless trimmer Since its well balanced and handy you don’t get tired easily. Besides it’s a lot less noisy than the gas powered ones, So you are being gentle to the environment both in terms of gas and noise pollution.

Another plus point is the safety feature which ensures that for the tool to run the button has to be continuously pressed. It does put added strain on the button finger – but for a fast and ultra sharp tool like this – this feature is a definite plus. All in all I love this piece and would recommend it to anyone. There were a couple of areas where the users had issues.  First was with the battery life – and the charging time. The battery takes 9 hours for a full charge and lasts a little less than an hour. A quick charger can be bought for $30 which charges in 2 hours. Though the black & decker hedge trimmer manages to cut through most shrubs easily, the thicker stems, the ones nearing ¾” take some effort.

The Black & Decker NHT524 cordless electric hedge trimmer is excellent value for money and the coolest trimmer around. Pros: quick charge, long enough lasting battery, light weight,Cons: none yet After years of struggling with my gas powered trimmer I decided it was time for a change. I have owned electric ones before and didn’t want to deal with electric cords. I was hesitant to buy a battery powered trimmer, worried the charge wouldn’t last or it would be under-powered. Well, this trimmer is neither. I throw the battery on the charger before I cut grass and it’s fully charged by the time I am done. I have no problem doing my entire yard on one charge. I only have 1/3 of an acre, but we do have several flower beds, a swing set, driveway, and sidewalks to trim along. The edging feature works great. Plenty of power for typical suburban yard work. If your looking for heavy duty this is not for you. But, if you are looking for a good trimmer for typical yard work this is a great product.
